Avoid 3-1 fits
I thought we had discussed how to explore slam after Stayman. Partner didn't. And that's how I ended up playing this 3-1 fit:
The heart king was finessable and spades and diamonds split 3-2, so 7S was cold no matter how you played it. 4H wasn't.

In the English Spring Foursomes last weekend, Andrew Robson and Alexander Allfrey played in four hearts, redoubled, and went down six trumps for -3400. They found that ♥982 opposite ♥6 was not an appropriate trump suit.
ReplyDeleteRobson/Allfrey will be representing England in the European Team Championships next month in Dublin and in the World Bridge Games (aka Olympiad) in Lille in August.
It can happen to everyone :)
One word: ouch!
